ABUJA — The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the management of Madonna University to temper justice with mercy and reconsider the expulsion of several nursing students involved in a trending social media video recorded within a hospital environment.
While acknowledging that the students' conduct was grossly inappropriate and violated the professional ethics expected of trainee nurses, NANS urged the university authority to substitute the expulsion with a stern warning letter to safeguard the academic futures of the affected youths.
Speaking on the development in Abuja, NANS National President, Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, emphasized that while the student body does not condone indiscipline or moral decadence, permanent expulsion imposes a disproportionate toll on the students' academic careers, mental health, and family investments.
"Expulsion is a grave punishment that fundamentally alters the course of a young person's life," Akinteye stated. "These students have invested years of hard work, resources, and hope into pursuing a career in nursing. They have acknowledged their mistake, taken full responsibility, and learned their lesson the hard way."
The NANS President noted that Madonna University remains a reputable institution known for academic excellence and character formation, expressing confidence that the management will adopt a corrective rather than punitive approach.
"The greatest form of discipline is not to end their journey, but to correct them, guide them, and give them the opportunity to rise from their mistake," Akinteye added, reassuring the public that NANS remains steadfast in enforcing moral ethics and professional standards across all Nigerian campuses.
